Lagrangian particle tracks in Casco Bay

A Lagrangian particle tracking routine uses the FVCOM velocity fields to produce
model particle tracking. The images below show particle movement from different
locations during May 2005 and Oct. 2004. Black numbers indicate starting positions,
red numbers show where the particles ended. All particles are set to a fixed depth
of 2 meters. The northeasterly of May 5-10, 2005 drove particles from the Kennebec
outlet into inner Casco Bay. During the northeasterly of Oct. 20-27, 2004, when
Kennebec discharge is much less than in May, penetration into inner Casco Bay
 did not occur.
